Thanks, Dave.
A comment was also made regarding Jesus's thoughts on why the people were clamouring to be near him. In John, Jesus seems to claim that they are there only to eat, and from this the claim was made that Jesus would rather not be feeding them but would rather they just understood some spiritual truth that was somehow more important than their bodies (ahem, hello there, gnosticism). But the thing is, he did feed them! and he did it again! (and maybe many more times).

If only we in this country where most of the people in the churches are overfed could see just how much Jesus understood of poverty and hunger. He and his disciples were basically beggars themselves who spent hour after hour into near exhaustion in feeding and healing their neighbours.

The only answer can be: then why did Jesus say "Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."

What does it say that we don't want to do those things? Notice "Saved my soul" is not on the list.

... but I have a question: What is local philosophy? So how does one interact with the concepts of philosophy without getting caught up in the pursuit of all-encompassing—the way things are everywhere—answers (or questions)? Is such a goal possible?

Interesting question. There are many interesting authors who write about the "reading of (urban) space" - they base their observations and interpretations on history, geography, economy, sociology, conceptual art - and often a mix of them all.

In my amateur way I'm trying this on my blog View Blog. But there are some giants of the field that are fascinating to read: historians like Fernand Braudel, Karl Schlögel, authors like Iain Sinclair (Lights out for the territiry) and William Vollmann (Imperial).

But if you wan a quick an interesting introduction I would recommend the following two short video's and the podcasts. These are amateur philosophers of local space. Very inspiring.

A very interesting challenge. I think, people resort to the 'negative' approach because it is safer and allows you to remain secure. If you state your dreams and your hopes, then you're laying a lot on the line right away. That is very scary. But it also opens you up for so much more potential to foster greatness within a community.

An absolutely amazing quote, and really something everyone should ponder. Often it is true that what we say can be very different from what we live. The reality is, your words have so much more power and impact when they are backed up by the life you display for all to see and experience.
